Suburbs of Our Discontent

I didn't get the full extent of Twilight mania until I went to see Midsummer performed at our local high school over the weekend. Instead of fairies, they did vampires (picture Titania emerging from a coffin, Puck sniffing at the mortals' necks, etc.).

And man, could these teenagers do vampires! I practically expected Edward and Bella themselves to walk onstage and join Puck in twitching and staring out morbidly at the audience. Needless to say, it rocked.

And my daughter was convinced, too. In fact, she told me that the vampires worked better than fairies. Her exact words: "Didn't Shakespeare know that vampires are the creatures of the night????"

Yeah, Shakespeare, you big dummy!
