Andy Murray's Win, My Total Freak-Out
Published: June 1, 2011

To the Editor:

The last time an Englishman won a Grand Slam tennis event--and I'm talking about any of the Slams, not just Wimbledon--the year was 1936.

When Andy Murray does well on the courts, we in England claim him as one of our own. That time is obviously now, as Mr. Murray has fought his way into the French Open semi-finals.

Despite my country's fickle attitude towards the Scot, I love him and wish him the absolute best in his battle against the fierce Spaniard Rafa Nadal.

In fact, I am completely freaking out about Andy Murray and would like to make this public statement:

Andy Murray, if you are able to plant your British feet triumphantly in that filthy French soil and hoist that French Open trophy in the air, I will allow you to be buried next to me in Stratford. Additionally, a bust of you could be mounted just to the left of mine.

Godspeed.
