Black Swan might not seem like the most relaxing Sunday morning activity, but it's a great way to clear your head.
As I sat with friends--other Mommies who had ditched their families to make the 11:00AM show--watching Natalie Portman peel off her skin in large chunks and become totally psycho, all my troubles just magically disappeared. Granted, I felt sick and disturbed when I came out of the theater, but I wasn't focused obsessively on myself, which, as you know, can be so dangerous.
A couple of people have asked me if this movie felt Shakespearean, and I guess it does in a Reviving Ophelia kind of way. The self-destructive ballerinas did remind me of Shakespeare's most screwed up girls. Still, it was really fun to hang out with them for a while.
