Shakespeare at (Not So) Large
The awesome Margorie Ingall broke the news to us gently. Our man Will Shakespeare just got bumped down to #2 on last year's "most popular high school theater productions" list.
What's the new #1, you ask? It's a play called Almost, Maine , a romantic comedy that debuted in Portland a few years ago. The synopsis describes the fictional town of Almost as a place where lovers "fall in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. . . [and] love is lost, found, and confounded." Hey, wait a minute--that sounds an awful lot like A Midsummer Night's Dream, which incidentally is the #2 most popular play on this survey!!!
Plagiarism! Somebody do something! Plagiarism!
What? You're saying that this is a description of every romantic comedy on earth? Oh, fine. Nevermind.
