Shakespearean Summer Salads

"Everyday can be your salad day"--Cleopatra
It's that time of the year again. Now that the weather is warm, women everywhere are planning their al fresco events. Shakespeare's ladies are no exception, of course. Perhaps their salad ideas will inspire our own menus.


Lady Macbeth's "Red Salad"
ingredients: beets, red peppers, red wine vinaigrette, blood oranges, radicchio

Ophelia's "Innocent Greens"
ingredients: spring greens, baby tomatoes, sunflower seeds, lemon

Cleopatra's "Luscious Death-Leaf"
ingredients: caviar, calamari, jumbo shrimp, hemlock

Juliet's "Quick Weight Loss for Wedding Salad"
ingredients: store-bought salad (any kind) and syrup of ipecac
