Ask the Experts

Back by popular demand, King Richard III continues his stint as guest columnist for "Ask the Experts."

Dear King Richard,

I have a good job and am generally happy with my co-workers and boss. But lately something has come up that I’m not sure what to do about. One of my co-workers keeps asking for my advice about her dating situation. She’s very sweet, but I don’t feel comfortable telling her what to do in her personal life. I don’t want to be rude, or to hurt her feelings, but I’d like her to stop confiding in me.

Do you have any advice? Thanks!!!!!!

Sincerely,

Jen from Accounting
Randolph, VT

Dear Jen,

I urge you to consider a murder plot. Your co-worker—let’s call her “Sue”—sounds as if she might get in the way of your professional advancement. I couldn’t help but notice that you neglect to indicate your actual position in Accounting. Is this because you are ashamed of your current position and secretly wish for promotion? My guess is “yes.”

Jen, believe in yourself. You had the guts to write to me about this oppressive situation. Now, you must follow through.

Please keep me updated.

All best,

King Richard

P.S. When you say “dating situation,” am I correct in assuming that “Sue” is single?
